Experience an encounter with the fastest shark in the ocean: the MAKO SHARK! The encounter with the Mako can differ from 15 minutes upon even 3 hours. The size of the Mako can vary from 150 lbs (6 feet) to the largest one we have seen so far: 800 lbs! (12 feet).
Our Cage we use for diving with the mako shark is constructed of aluminum pipe and solid bar stock. Its floated on the surface or submerged 3 to 4 feet under water depending on sea condition. Two to three guests at a time, switching every 30 minutes, can enter the cage via a trap door on the top of the Cage which is fed air via hoses connected to the tanks aboard the boat.
The cage has full 360, 24” open viewing area at shoulder height for easy viewing. These open areas can be closed off with Lexan windows for our beginner divers.
09:00 / 10:00 am
The cage is set in the water and the day can truly begin!
We prepare the chumming. Chum is a pre-made mix of fish meal set out in the water to slowly drift and attract the animals to the boat and up to the cage, this process can take from 10 minutes to hours.
Just as with all our other trips, we are at the mercy of Mother Nature.
While we are waiting for the Mako, all guests are encouraged to try the cage, practice the technique and make sure their camera gear is alright.
The viewing from top side can be just as exciting as from the Cage and all guests are encouraged to have “Go-pro” type equipment on poles or on hand to optimize their exposure to the Mako shark.
Back at the dock.
