Isla Holbox is a small out-of-the-way Mexican island where you can go back to the days of no cars, beach roads and beautiful sunsets.

The island is located west of Cancun in the northeast corner of Quintana Roo, Mexico. One of the most amazing things is that the roads at the island are only travelled by electric golf carts, and the streets are whole sand so you have this rare feeling of being far away, even like traveling in time  to the past.

Taxi golf carts and rental golf carts are common ways to get around the town, besides bicycles and by feet, so if you want to explore Holbox it will be amazing if you cross the whole island by bike.

From Cancún it takes 3 hours by bus to get to Chiquila, where you can take the ferry to Isla Holbox. An old singing man on the ferry immediately creates a good mood feeling and reinforced while you reach the island.

The small streets made of white sand makes it a natural beauty. Most of the people on the island are living from the fish. You find many seafood restaurants on the coast of the sea.

Holbox is separated from the mainland coast of Mexico by a shallow lagoon which gives sanctuary to thousands of flamingos, pelicans and many other bird species. The island is also known for its whale sharks during the summer months. Also kayaking, kite boarding and paddle boarding in the winter months attracts attention for tourists.

However, you will not find mass tourism which makes it a peaceful place to stay. Travelers who visit the island can fully relax in a hammock on the beach, walking through the town or just try a delicious lobster pizza for dinner. Also watching the sunset is a must see for tourists. It is a place to hide and spend a lovely weekend away from the crowds of Cancun.

EcoColors Tours gives you the opportunity to discover the beauty of this island yourself. With the Holbox Island Adventure Tour you explore the amazing wildlife with especially attention to birds and crocodiles. Another experience you should try is visiting The Little Bird Island, the place were important aquatic birds nest. This tour is great for bird lovers and has the perfect combination of nature and adventure in the Yucatan Peninsula!

The Yucatan Peninsula offers many archaeological sites which are known from the Mayan World. The amazing Mayan ruins can be found throughout the area among the Yucatan.

The Yucatan’s grandest archaeological site is Chichen-Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage area of immense cultural significance. About 125 kilometers west of Cancún and Cozumel, Chichen Itza is perhaps the largest, most famous and most accessible Mayan site. This tourist attraction is a rugged place of soaring pyramids, startling carved columns and massive temples. The name of Chichen Itza means “at the mouth of the well of Itza”

The most impressive temple is the Castillo, with its 365 steps, 52 panels and 18 terraces. During the fall and spring, the sun’s shadow forms an enormous snake’s body, which lines up with the carved stone snake head at the bottom of the Castillo pyramid. Across from el Castillo, the Temple of the Warriors is also known as the Temple of the Thousand Columns. On top of it there is a stone on which steaming human hearts were offered to the gods. Besides the two most famous temples of Chichen Itza, there are smaller buildings hold interests.

Juego de pelota is a game which was played with a rubber ball with a weight between 3 and 8 kilos. The ball had to be moved without using hands or feet. They let the ball bounce and with their shoulders and hips they had to get the ball to a wall-mounted ring.

The Yucatan Peninsula doesn’t have any streams or rivers, because it is a limestone plain, so cenotes provide the only access to underground rivers. Many cenotes are located in the region, but the Sacred Cenote of Chichen Itza was one of the most important one to the Mayans. The Sacred Cenote is a natural source of 60 meters in diameter.

Interestingly, many perishable objects were preserved by the cenote. Wooden objects for example, which normally would have rotted, were preserved in the water. A great variety of wooden objects were found including weapons, scepters, idols, tools, and jewelry. Jade, a typical green stone used for ornaments and implements, was the largest category of objects found followed by textiles. The presence of jade, gold, and copper in the cenote offers proof of the importance of Chichen Itza as a cultural city center.

Do you want to see and learn more about this phenomenon archaeological site? With EcoColors Tours you have the possibility to book a private Chichen Itza tour to visit the ancient Mayan capital!

One day, a man said that repetition is the root of learning. This a very nice and philosophical phrase but most of the time, when the heart is not involved in the process, the results are far from what we expect.

What would you think if we show a fun and different way to learn the basics of a language and simultaneously see the wonders of regions as Yucatán and Quintana Roo part of activities such as snorkeling, swimming sea turtles and whale sharks? Sounds good?

Well that’s possible with EcoColors, who gave me the opportunity to join their team during my internship, grow in my field of study and improve my skills in other languages, such as Spanish or English.

You must have heard many times about México in many ways and mainly for its culinary heritage and its beautiful landscape and panorama.

Well let me start this blog by telling you that I am not going to reinvent the wonders of the landscape and beaches of México.

However, I am pretty sure you have heard one day that it’s one thing to hear a story and another to experiment it.

Well, I have been close the Mexican beaches for two weeks, watching these wonders from far away, a month ago when I was still in France I was even watching them from Google pictures.

Yesterday what happened is that I experimented it, I went to Playa Delfines which is an amazing beach, beautiful, windy, with warm water and soft white sand. The color of the water made a perfect picture. The best moment however, was not when I was swimming, or contemplating the magnificent panorama, surprisingly as it can be one thing has got me hook while as i was leaving the beach.

A big add close to the gates which are next to the entrance of the beach, with the following message:

“This is YOURS, take care of it because it’s all YOU have”

I was amazed how powerful and simple this message was, because I felt concerned at the highest point, like I could really have an impact and make a change because it was clearly mentioning that this is OURS.

It’s one thing to have a treasure, an empire, and it’s another one to keep it.

Still having doubts? Ask Bonaparte, Alexander Le GRAND, they had empires they and lost it.

The Mexican heritage is our treasure, empire, local, tourists, foreigners and the only way to show it our appreciation is to take care of it, and because taking care of it is keeping it alive.

Be responsible, support and preserve the nature and the heritage with the sustainable development and everyday eco-friendly habits.

Enjoy your day!
