Start with a 450 year old hacienda and a bike. Immerse yourself in the fascinating artist’s colony of San Miguel de Allende. You can explore the Mexican cradle of independence at Dolores Hidalgo and the beautiful silver city of Guanajuato. Along your journey you will visit the lovely Sanctuary church villages. Enjoy the breathtaking wide open range lands of Colonial Mexico. These are all highlighted by the awe-inspiring backdrop of the Sierra Madre.


Step back in time and experience the elegance of another era. Guanajuato Mexico Bike Tour Itinerary


Day 1: Arrival and transfer

Arrive at BJX Airport and transfer to Guanajuato lodging. Walking tour of Guanajuato. Overnight in Guanajuato/Alma del Sol or Casa de Espiritus Alegres.


Day 2: Valenciana Mines (9.3 miles)

Ride to the Valenciana mines from Guanajuato. As we leave the city of Guanajuato we ride on the old gravel road to Valenciana. This is flat in the beginning and after a while there are some short climbs, trending upward to the Valenciana mines. We stop to visit the famous church of Valenciana, the mine and mining museum (all optional), then we descend to the castle of Santa Cecilia along a panoramic road with nice views of the city. We finish with a descent back into the city and through its back alleys that will bring us back to where we started in the heart of downtown. Overnight in Guanajuato in Alma del Sol or Casa de Espiritus Alegres.


Day 3: Santa Rosa Trail (25 miles)

Ride Santa Rosa Trail to Hacienda las Trancas. We start in the Sierra de Guanajuato by Santa Rosa and ride the Camino Real through a beautiful valley and through lovely scenery and rustic Mexican communities to end at the 5-star Hacienda las Trancas. Overnight in Hacienda las Trancas.


Day 4: Haciendas (28 miles)

Hacienda Jaral de Berrio. Transfer Hacienda las Trancas to the train station of San Felipe and ride to Hacienda Jaral de Berrio for a Mezcal tasting. Return via Hacienda del Cubo and Hacienda la Quemada to Hacienda las Trancas. Overnight in Hacienda las Trancas.


Day 5: Free day in hacienda

Free non-biking day. Today you are free to enjoy the hacienda. Overnight in Hacienda las Trancas.


Day 6: Historical route (44 miles)

The Ruta de Independencia to Dolores Hidalgo and Atotonilco. We ride from Hacienda las Trancas through Hacienda Gallinero (around Dolores Hidalgo). Then, we cross Dolores Hidalgo and ride on paved road for another 10 miles, after which we change back to dirt road. Following the former railroad line, the terrain is generally flat and very agricultural, with beautiful terrain along the Laja river. We ride another 9.5 mile past an old bridge that is one of the most beautiful places on our trip. It´s worth taking a moment to absorb the scenery here, before we continue on a 18.6 mile ride on flat terrain toward “Atotonilco”. Site of one of Mexico’s most famous churches, the Cathedral of Atotonilco is renowned for its interior paintings. We continue from here to la Gruta Hot Springs, where we enjoy the scenery and a soak in the healing waters! We finish with a 5 mile ride to our hotel in San Miguel de Allende. Overnight in San Miguel de Allende.


Day 7: Mineral de Pozos(16 miles)

Ride to Mineral de Pozos. Leaving San Miguel de Allende in the morning we drive to a ghost town. Settled in 1565, when it was called Palmar de Vega, it was later re-named Ciudad Porfirio Diaz and now it is called Mineral de San Pedro de Pozos (the mine at San Pedro of the wells) or more simply, Pozos. Ride through a semi-desert landscape and a unique atmosphere surrounded by the ruins of a city whose glory days were at the end of the 19th century. Overnight in San Miguel de Allende.


Day 8: Free day in San Miguel
Free day in San Miguel for shopping. Overnight in San Miguel de Allende.
Day 9: Departure
Transfer to airport at Guanajuato or Querétaro.
