Wildlife Safari in the Mayan World

July 12-19, 2008 and August 10-17, 2008 and September 05-12, 2008

An unique seven day expedition in the Maya World discovering unique species like whale sharks, spider monkeys, marine turtles, flamingos etc., and participating in conservation projects in the Protected areas of the Maya jungle, reef and wetlands. Some of the activities included are: kayaking, biking, snorkeling, hiking the jungle, exploring Mayan Archeological sites , and visiting pristine protected areas.

Trip Highlights:

  • Kayak in the ocean lanes used by ancient Mayan traders inside the barrier reef.
  • Kayak in the wetlands and watch groups of the American flamingo.
  • Snorkel the area's reefs and blue lagoons with amazing animals such as whale sharks.
  • Participate in the marine turtle conservation project in México and watch marine turtles come out to lay their eggs as well as releasing new born.
  • Bicycle in the amazing Sian Ka´an Biosphere Reserve jungle , home to more than 345 species of birds, 100 mammals and a wide diversity of plants and animals. Sian Ka´an reserve has more than 1.5 million acres protected.
  • Walk through the ruins , and climb the temples of Tulum, Cobá, and other Mayan sites that reveal the engineering genius and the worldview of the ancient Mayan cities that ruled southeast México and Central America.
  • Discover the fantastic underground rivers ( cenotes ) with crystal clear waters full with stalagmites and stalactites.
  • Hike in the jungle to discover unique species such as the spider monkey and many others.

 

Day 1
  • Pick up in the airport and transfer to Posada de Amor in Puerto Morelos.
  • Briefing about activities, security measurements and important information.
  • Dinner in the hotel.

 

 

 

Day 2

  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • Enjoy snorkeling inside the barrier reef to your own private spot in the reef where you can enjoy a wide diversity of corals and fishes.
  • Lunch in the hotel.
  • Hike in the botanical garden learning about Maya plants,trees and enjoying a wild population of spider Monkeys
  • Back to the hotel.
    Dinner in the hotel.

Day 3

  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • Departure to Tulum archeological site.
  • Visit Tulum archeological site.
  • Snorkel in the great Yaxmul Cenote or similar with crystal waters full with stalagmites and stalactites.
  • Lunch in Tulum town in Don Cafeto Mexican restaurant.
  • Depart towards Siankaan Biosphere Reserve Visitor Center.
  • Arrival and check in the research station.
  • Dinner in the Visitors Center.
  • Night hike in the jungle of Siankaan Biosphere Reserve to enjoy the animals and sound of the jungle after night.

Day 4

  • Optional birdwatching hike in the reserve.
  • Breakfast in the Visitors Center.
  • Bike expedition through the reserve enjoying unique wildlife.
  • Lunch in the research station.
  • Depart towards Coba.
  • Arrival to Coba and check in Club Med Coba.
  • Dinner in the hotel.
  • Night hike in search of crocodiles by the Coba lagoon.

Day 5

  • Optional birdwatching hike in Coba.
  • Breakfast in the hotel.
  • Visit the unique Coba archeological site. Hike in the site 3 miles discovering the great Nohoch Mul Tallest pyramid in the Maya World of Mexico
  • Back to the hotel. Enjoy a swim in the pool.
  • Lunch in the hotel.
  • Depart towards Holbox island inside Yum Balam protected area.
  • Arrival to Chiquila and boat transfer to Holbox. In boat transfer pass by bird island to enjoy this fantastic island in the afternoon.
  • Check in Villas Delfines hotel or similar.
  • Dinner in the hotel.
  • Night hike in the beach in search of marine turtles laying eggs.
    Release new born marine turtles and certification of adoption of your newborn marine turtle.


Day 6

  • Early departure by boat to look for whale sharks, big mantas and dolphins. Snorkel with whale sharks. The snorkeling will depend on the whale sharks letting us get close. Normally they are feeding and if we get close without disturbing them we can get to swim and snorkel with them. Fruit, juices and sandwich during the boat trip.
  • Back to the hotel.
  • Lunch in the hotel.
  • Hike in Holbox town
  • Dinner in the hotel.

Day 7

  • Breakfast in the hotel
  • Enjoy a fantastic kayak expedition with flamingos, pelicans, cormorans, egrets, herons, from the seat of your kayak.
  • Lunch at Faro Viejo restaurant.
    Something to think about: “adopt a palm”.
  • Depart towards Cancun.
  • Arrival to Cancun and check in Hotel Verano Beat.
  • Dinner in Los Bisquets or similar (Mexican restaurant).

Day 8

  • Transfer to the airport depending on flights back.
