Bird Watching Tour

9 days birdwatching-tour with the possibility to see over a half of the 1040 bird species that are here in Mexico.

The Yucatán Peninsula, consists of Campeche, Quintana Roo and the Yucatán states and provides unique possibilities for bird watching. Here, more than half of all the 1040 bird species that live in Mexico have been registered. This is due to the great biodiversity that one finds between the maritime and the coastal zone, where the Mesoamerican reef, the world's 2 nd largest reef, is located.
These regions extend from Contoy island to the southern coast, along Banco Chinchorro and Mesoamerica. The native vegetation of the Yucatan Península coast, is not only very important the residents, but also to the thousands of migratory birds that are dependent on the leafs, fruits and pits.

The migratory birds are visiting Mexico two times per year to escape the winter in other countries. Therefore, they are crossing the Golf of Mexico, a way of 800 to 1000 kilometer, to arrive at the Yucatan Peninsula. This is the first stop on their journey to Central America. EcoColors offers the opportunity to watch these birds with a maximum of 8 people. The best places for bird watching are: The botanical garden- Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marín, Central Vallarta (route of the cenotes), Muyil (Sian Ka´an), Coba, Punta Laguna, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Vigía Chico, Cozumel and Río Lagartos.

	Day 1
	Check in at the hotel Ojo de agua in Puerto Morelos. Introduction to the tour and the guide and the driver of the tour. This includes a lecture by Kenneth Johnson, the General Director of EcoColors, about the importance of conservation and preservation of the native flora and fauna.
	Day 2 Birding Central Vallarta
05:30-13:00 hrs.	Birdwatching tour in Central Vallarta (Ruta de los Cenotes).
13:30-14:00 hrs.	Lunch.
15:00 hrs.	Departure to Cozumel. Check in at Casa Mexicana.
	Day 3 Birding Cozumel
05:30-13:00 hrs.	Birdwatching tour on Cozumel.
13:30-15:00 hrs.	Lunch.
15:30-18:00 hrs.	Birdwatching tour on Cozumel and overnight at Casa Mexicana.
	Day 4
05:30-12:00 hrs.	Birdwatching tour on Cozumel.
12:30-13:30 hrs.	Lunch.
14:30 hrs.	Departure to Sian Ka'an. Check in at the visitors center.
	Day 5 Birding Sian Ka'an
05:30-12:00 hrs.	Birding in Sian Ka'an. Follow to Carillo Puerto.
	Day 6 Birding Felipe Carrillo Puerto
05:00-15:00 hrs.	Birdwatching tour at Puerto Felipe Carrillo and a snack. Then we travel further to Coba and check in at Club Med Coba.
	Day 7 Birding Coba
5:00–12:00 hrs.	Birdwatching tour in Coba and Punta Laguna.
13:00-15:00 hrs.	Lunch.
15:00-17:00 hrs.	Birdwatching in Coba and then we travel further to Valladolid. Here, check in at Meson del marques.
	Day 8 Birding Rio Lagartos Yucatan
07:00-16:00 hrs.	Birding watching and lunch at Río Lagartos. Return to Puerto Morelos and check in at Ojo de agua.
	Day 9
06:00-10:00 hrs.	Birding in Botanical Garden, Dr. Alfredo Barrera Marín.
10:30 hrs.	Lunch.
